Punishment vs Correction?
When a student misbehaves do you issue a punishment (often in a reactive exchange)?
Or do you issue a well thought out consequence designed to change the behaviour? The reality is the punishments tend to be much less effective at changing behaviour than consequences. And what is the difference between a punishment and a consequence? Attitude! It’s all about the attitude of the teacher! |
Tough classes get Mr/Ms Grump!
There’s an irony in teaching and it is this … our most challenging classes need us to be upbeat, vibey, happy and bouyant. And yet when teaching our most challenging classes we are commonly stressed, stern and angry - the opposite emotions required to turn around a challenging class!
