GeoGebra Classic 6 vs GeoGebra Classic 5
Original file created by Peter Currie, a past participant of the 'GeoGebra - Become a Proficient, Inspired Practitioner' course.
It's All About Dynamic Text
Dynamic Text is a powerful feature in GeoGebra that allows for a dynamic display of formulas and equations. It enables the numbers to change as objects are manipulated, as demonstrated in the gif above.
This feature makes GeoGebra a versatile tool for mathematics education. It can be used in a wide range of topics, from graphing and geometry to measurement and any topic involving formulas. By the way, I'm not advocating using gifs of GeoGebra files when teaching mathematics! I use gifs to show on a webpage some of the possibilities with GeoGebra. Check out the page of gifs of extraordinary files created by teachers who participated in the GeoGebra-Proficiency PD. |
What About GeoGebra Classic 6?
I'll forgive you for wondering what this has to do with GeoGebra Classic 6! You may or may not know that in the course 'GeoGebra - Become a Proficient, Inspired Practitioner' I have deliberately not converted the tutorials to Classic (Version) 6. I request that participants use GeoGebra Classic 5 (or Version 5).
In late August 2020, I had an interesting conversation with a course participant from the UK who created files using both Classic 5 and 6 versions. We both decided that staying with Classic 5 was a good idea for now.
The number #1 area in which Classic 6 is lacking is Dynamic Text. Classic 5 and Classic 6 versions have their advantages and disadvantages, but in the area of Dynamic Text, Classic 6 falls short.
Watch a 7-min video to see the differences between the two versions.
